A moon art installation at Wells Cathedral was formed by a giant model of the moon suspended from the ceiling of the nave. This was just one of many installations of the Museum of the Moon, a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram.

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the replica featured detailed imagery of the lunar surface taken by a NASA satellite carrying the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera, which was launched in 2010. The model moon was accompanied by audio recordings of communications between Earth and the spacecraft involved in the Apollo moon landings.

The photos above were taken with a Nikon D750 DSLR. I noticed how the photos taken with a Nikon D7200 on a different day and at a different hour (below) gave the Moon model a distinctively blue colour.

I can’t be sure if this colour difference was due to the different camera sensors, the different time of day, or a combination of the two. Perhaps it was due to two slightly different phases of the Moon!

The artwork appeared somewhat surreal in the ecclesiastical surroundings, though altogether it was a strange and quite arresting spectacle.
